Zweigelt, a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent, is the most widely planted red wine variety in Austria. Bred by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt in 1922, the variety impresses with its deep, dark colour with typical violet hues, a fruity nose, and soft, juicy tannins. Zweigelt is a great everyday red wine. Light-bodied, juicy, with a peppery finish.
