THE LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

With only 11 sleeps to go to the big day, the Christmas shopping window is getting shorter and the anti is upping for those of us who still have some names left to buy for on our lists. The good news is, the Derventio Elf is here to solve all your worries (for those recipients over the age of 18). Below, is a whole host of ideas for different tastes and budgets.

STOCKING FILLERS/ LITTLE BITS

Red wine lovers - the perfect little something for someone that likes a glass of red every now and then is this half bottle of El Coto Crianza. It is is a beautiful red wine from Rioja. 100% Tempranillo, it is aged in oak for 12 months before resting in bottle for a further 6 months. It has fresh fruit aromas and a balanced palate which is silky and velvety. A lovely gift at a lovely price of £5

Pub pals - if you know someone that loves a trip to the pub then why not treat them to a postable pub round for Christmas? Coming in wine, gin or beer (£9.50, £11 or £7.50 respectively), there is one to fit the bill for most drinks fans. They also come with a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate and are all plastic free. So many little wins in a little box. You can also claim to be one round up next time you visit the pub.

For the Wine Geek - some people like drinking wine and some people like history and sometimes these hobbies cross over. If you know these people then this book is the answer to your Christmas shopping prayers. This book tells the story of wine, (via the medium of graphic art), from its origins in the Mediterranean to the globalised industry of the 21st century. Tracing the innovations that have accompanied this ancient art and science, Wine: A Graphic History is a great read for £15.99.

Gin fans will love this - Edinburgh Christmas Gin (£25) is truly one of a kind, filled with yule tide aromatics, frankincense and myrrh. The expert distillers at Edinburgh Gin have taken a different approach than the more traditional Christmas spiced gin. Nutmeg and ginger root form the warm spiced base, balanced by the heady aromatics from frankincense and myrrh, all framed by juniper.

A gift to impress (without the big price tag): if you need a gift to take with you for the Christmas table then this is it. This very lovely magnum, complete with wooden box, all for £20. Chateau Le Peuy Saincrit is a wonderful entry to Bordeaux Red and will work excellently with your Christmas dinner. This really is one of the best value presents you can buy this Christmas.

Port perfection: Graham's are experts when it comes to port and this port selection box (£40) gives you the chance to try five of their most popular varieties in 20cl format. Give someone the opportunity to explore the range and quality of Graham's and maybe find a new favourite. A really great gift if you are looking for something a bit different.

On Cloud Wine: If you have a wine fan to buy for then our On Cloud Wine hamper (£40) is a great option. Coming in with a mixed, white or red wine selection and delicious snacks alongside, it gives your recipient a bit of everything. Even better, it is all plastic free and the contents are either consumable, compostable or recyclable.

Something different for the spirit fans: The Vanilla Spiced Gin (£42) from Rare Bird is a gift that comes straight from Malton. Following distillation, vanilla pods, cloves, ginger root and star anise and allspice are macerated in the gin for 5 days. This produces a gin with a rich, soft spice flavour with a burnt amber colour. Treat this much as you would a rum or a whisky, drink it neat or add sparkling wine for a French 75 cocktail.

BLOW THE BUDGET

A trip to New Zealand: Well not quite, but this is one of New Zealand's best exports. Do you know a white wine lover? Or more specifically a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc lover? It may sound specific but there are a lot of them out there and this is the perfect gift for them. (Please take note PTS - Ed) A trio of the ever popular and extremely tasty Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc in a beautiful box (£75).

A trip to Bordeaux: ok, another white lie but another excellent selection from a a world famous wine producing region. If you need a gift for someone that knows anything about wine then they will be very impressed with this lovely box of Premium Bordeauxs (£144) when they open it on Christmas morning (if you are lucky they might share with you.

Hopefully that little list has gone some way to helping with that last minute panic. But if not we have so much more on the website and even more in the shop. If you have someone specific or tricky give us a call and we will find something to suit.

Happy Christmas!!
